Fellows from SuPER-W network will be attending International water association's resource recovery conference in Venice (IWARR2019) Sep 8th to 12th. On Sunday 8th, SuPER-W holds the preconference workshop "SuPER-W: Resource Recovery from wastewater: emerging technologies & concepts". See flyer here.

Several students of the network have poster or oral presentations in the conference. We hope to see you in Venice.

From July 04th to 19th, the seventh network training event of SuPER-W took place in Gent, Belgium. The main agenda of the training included evaluating the research progress of the ESRs research and improving their complementary skills. Prof. Gijs Du Laing, the coordinator of SuPER-W project from Gent university, hosted this successful two-week event.

Capture research center, of which several Super-W fellows are a member, is now a finalist in the REGIOSTARS award 2019. CAPTURE is an interdisciplinary collaboration between several young and dynamic professors from 3 different faculties from Ghent University. CAPTURE proposes an integrated approach based on three pillars:

Clustering of expertise, infrastructure and stakeholders in thematic pipelines, developing solutions from waste to resource, to final application

Acceleration of the introduction of knowledge and technologies towards industry and society

1st Capture conference to be held at Ghent

On the 22nd and 23rd of October 2019 the first CAPTURE conference will take place in Ghent. With this two day conference we are aiming to explore and discuss opportunities and strengths that CAPTURE can offer towards a more sustainable and circular economy. The CAPTURE projects converge in three pipelines, named ‘CO₂ to product’, ‘water ‘fit for use’’ and ‘plastics to resource’. Educational outreach on water and sanitation in rural communities in Jaén, Peru

A group of our fellow ESRs worked on educational outreach for primary school students in Peru as part of their outreach. Last week Marco and Larissa reported implementation of their work on IYWPC 2019 (IWA International Young Water Professional Conference) in Toronto, Canada.

The project was a collaboration of SuPER-W fellows Marco Hartl, Larissa Terumi Arashiro and Juan Esteban Ramirez Morales with the NGO Engineers without borders (ESF Catalonia) and the Peruvian governmental educational initiative UGEL.

Approaching the third year of SuPER-W's running, the efforts of students is bearing fruit. Our fellow ESR, Marco Hartl presented his work at the 8th International Symposium for Wetland Pollutant Dynamics and Control (WETPOL) in Aarhus, Denmark. Where he had an oral presentation titled "Emerging contaminants removal in constructed wetlands operated as bio-electrochemical systems".

SuPER-W attends 5th B-IWA Nocturnal

Students and professors from SuPER-W network will join their colleagues in Belgian charter of International Water Association (B-IWA) on their 5th Nocturnal event on July 4th in Mons.

The event starts at 15hrs and in addition to the usual networking event of B-IWA nocturnals, includes a workshop on "How to be a good mentior?" and a session of 3 minute pitches in layman terms on the water related technologies. Find more info on the event in the flyer or on the Website.

Our ESR fellow, Morez Jafari had chance to present his results on importance of biofouling properties in membrane process in R2T yearly show case in Ghent, Belgium. Here he shares his experience in R2T presentation: “ It was a great experience to present my PhD results for group of experts with such a vast and various background. It was great combination of industrial partners and academics audience. I enjoyed so much interacting with industrial partners to know better their needs from academic research.”
